Connect Transit Social Media Policy

Connect Transit’s presence on social media platforms creates a forum for conversations about issues that are important to customers. Social media allows Connect Transit to share information beyond the conventional web experience.

Connect Transit's use of social media is intended to encourage interaction between the user and the agency. Connect Transit cannot verify nor confirm the accuracy of user comments or their compliance with the guidelines outlined. Connect Transit does not endorse any of the views in comments posted by users.

As a reminder, all communication with Connect Transit on social media, e-mail, or traditional mail, is public information, and is subject to disclosure, according to the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).

Connect Transit recommends that users of social media platforms refrain from including personal information that they wish to remain confidential when interacting with the Connect Transit social media accounts.

Connect Transit takes public comments seriously and will consider all comments made. In an effort to comply with the Illinois FOIA and other laws, including copyright laws, Connect Transit may seek to limit or remove information from social media platforms. For example, it may limit or remove information pertaining to Connect Transit personnel, whose personal data is generally protected under FOIA. Removal of data from a social media platform does not mean that the comments were not given appropriate consideration.  However, Connect Transit reserves the right to remove any comments that violate the following guidelines.

Posts/comments on a Connect Transit sanctioned social media website containing any of the following may be subject to removal:

  1. Profane, obscene, or pornographic content and/or language;
  2. Content that could compromise an ongoing criminal investigation;
  3. Defamatory posts;
  4. Threats to any person or organization;
  5. Solicitation of commerce, including but not limited to advertising of any business or product for sale;
  6. Conduct in violation of any federal, state, or local law;
  7. Encouragement of illegal activity;
  8. Information that  compromises the safety or security of the public or public systems

We encourage questions, comments, and discussion. Please keep comments G-rated and on topic, and be courteous to other people. Comments that do not follow these guidelines may be deleted. People who repeatedly ignore these guidelines may be removed from Connect Transit sanctioned social media sites.
